According to L’AS, these experts, having conducted various consultations as part of their study, highlight the environmental concerns that emerged at each stage of their analysis.

Furthermore, the report, as noted in the daily, highlights the concerns of coastal communities over the future impact on fishing.

The document consulted by the source also highlights the consequences of oil and gas activities on terrestrial ecosystems, particularly in terms of noise pollution. “There is also an underwater impact which remains insufficiently studied,” confirms Baba Dramé, director of Environmental Regulation and Control (DEEC).

On this basis, he recalls the requirement, enshrined in the Constitution of Senegal, to carry out environmental assessments to mitigate environmental impacts in any development project.

Consequently, the study commissioned by the highest authorities of the country encourages the new government to put in place framework legislation for the environmental management of the oil and gas sector, ensuring health, safety and security.

According to the report, Senegal would also benefit from the development and publication of a national communications strategy for the oil and gas sector.
