NBA Suspends Patrick Beverley for Four Games Due to Fan Altercation and Reporter Interaction

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was suspended four games without pay next season by the NBA on Thursday due to his actions after the last game of the Eastern Conference first round against the Indiana Pacers .

The league announced the suspension and indicated that Beverley was punished for “throwing a ball multiple times into spectators and for an inappropriate interaction with a reporter.”

The suspension was announced a day after Indianapolis police confirmed that they were investigating the altercation of “a citizen and NBA player” that occurred during the May 2 game, but without mentioning names.

Beverley threw a ball at the fans in the final minutes of a 120-98 Game 6 loss at Indiana. With that result, the Bucks were eliminated from the postseason.

Cameras showed Beverley sitting on the bench and throwing the ball into the stands, which hit a fan in the head with 2 1/2 minutes left. After another assistant tossed the ball back to Beverley, who had his arm outstretched to retrieve it, the Bucks guard tossed it to him.

Beverley addressed her behavior on “The Pat Bev Podcast” on Wednesday. He claimed that the public insulted him using a word that he had not said before, but added that his actions “were not excusable.”

After the game, Beverley did not allow ESPN reporter Malinda Adams to ask her questions during the group session in the locker room, saying it was because she had not subscribed to her podcast. Beverley first asked him to remove the microphone from her and eventually asked him to step away from the group.

The Bucks acquired Beverley, 35, from the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline. He was under a one-year contract, so he will become a restricted free agent.
