NBA Summer of 2025: Luka Doncic Poised to Sign Record-Breaking Contract

The summer of 2025 will be historic, but after that the coal rain could really begin.

In the NBA, the players of the season – divided into three teams – were chosen on the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

Also included: Luka Doncic (25). The Dallas Mavericks superstar is all the more pleased with the choice.

Because now the Slovenian is entitled to sign the largest NBA contract of all time in the summer of 2025 – a whopping 346 million dollars!

The record deal is currently “only” 304 million dollars for Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics). His teammate Jayson Tatum can even sign for 316 million this summer. But after that it’s Doncic’s turn.

And that is just the beginning.

The NBA is currently negotiating its TV contracts for the coming years. According to US media reports, these are expected to bring in an incredible $76 billion over the next eleven years. The madness!

The mega deal would increase salaries much, much more. The league’s salary cap is expected to rise by ten percent annually. It currently stands at $136 million. By the 2028-29 season, the salary cap could be $200 million.

NBA players who are selected to the teams of the season are automatically entitled to sign higher contracts. The amount is capped at 35 percent of the salary cap. However, if the salary cap increases that much, the salary for the 2032-33 season could be $95 million.

But that also means: The Doncic deal could be significantly higher!

The signed contracts are tied to a percentage in the salary cap. In Doncic’s case, that’s 35 percent of the available team salaries. If the salary cap shifts even further as a result of the TV deal, it is possible that Doncic could collect a lot more money.

Clarity will prevail in the coming days. Then the NBA wants to finish its negotiations and present the results.
