NBA Nears Major TV Contract Shake-Up: ESPN, NBC, and Amazon in Negotiations

The NBA leadership has been immersed in negotiations for its next television contract for months now. The current one, signed in 2014 and started in 2015, is valid until the end of the 2024-25 season. And everything indicates that, in the face of the new contract, the panorama will change drastically. So far the league has reached agreements with ESPN, NBC and Amazon, although the negotiation is not yet closed. According to Sports Business Journal, Disney (ESPN) will pay $2,500 to $2,800 annually for package ‘A’. Which gives it the broadcasting rights to the finals, a conference final, weekly games in prime time, the WNBA and international broadcasting rights.

The most affected, of course, would be TNTowned by Warner Bros. Discovery, which paid 1.2 billion annually for its package and seems to be staying away from NBC’s offer despite the fact that its CEO Gunnar Wiedenfels has indicated today who are still in talks with the league. The NBC will pay an amount close to 2.6 billion dollars for the package previously operated by TNT.

Amazon, the third in contention, has already entered strongly into NFL broadcasts in recent years. And it adds a third leg to the NBA’s national broadcast grid with its service for streaming. The company will pay around 1,800-2,000 million to exclusively broadcast the In-Season Tournament, the play-in, first round matches, the WNBA and international rights.
