NBA in Advanced Talks with Disney, Amazon, and NBC for Lucrative TV Rights Deal

Disney, Amazon and NBC are in advanced talks with the NBA to soon close a new agreement for the television rights of the competition, which currently broadcasts its matches on national television in the United States on ESPN and TNT, US media reported this Tuesday.

The television rights contract of ESPN, a network part of Disney, and TNT, a network part of the Warner Bros. Discovery colossus, expires in the 2024-2025 season.

Negotiations have been open for months and the NBA could multiply income from television rights by three thanks to its new contracts, which could take the American basketball league’s coffers from $24 billion to $76 billion, according to CNBC estimates.

Amazon could enter the scene of chains with NBA rights in exchange for figures between 1.8 billion and 2 billion dollars annually, starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, according to information provided by the ‘Sport Business Journal’.

Among the matches included in this agreement would be first-round playoff matches, as well as the play-in and In Season Tournament.

NBC would be willing to pay $2.5 billion annually for a package that includes its streaming platform Peacock, with two weekly meetings in the regular season and playoffs.

For its part, Disney would have to pay about $2.6 billion annually, compared to $1,500 million annually today, to renew the current agreement, according to ‘WSJ’.
