Arsenal continues to maintain its chances of winning the 2023/2024 Premier League. This was after the Gunners won 1-0 at home to Manchester United through a goal from Leandro Trossard.
In the match at Old Trafford, Sunday (12/5/2024) evening WIB, Trossard scored the only goal in the 20th minute. These additional three points were enough to bring Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League with 86 points from 37 matches.
They are one point ahead of Manchester City in second place with two games remaining. That means the competition for the title continues until the final week.
MU slumped to eighth position with 54 points from 36 matches, three points different from Newcastle United in sixth position, which is the final zone for the Europa League.
The course of the MU vs Arsenal match
MU and Arsenal both played safely from the early minutes. Neither team created many chances until at least the first 10 minutes of the match.
Arsenal can be said to have been put under a lot of pressure by MU, so they often made passing errors. Meanwhile, MU failed to maximize their superiority in possession of the ball into a deadly attack.
Arsenal’s tight defense was the reason why MU had difficulty scoring goals. The deadlock only broke in the 20th minute and the visitors took the lead 1-0.
Starting from Andre Onana’s sweep of the ball which was cut on the halfway line, Kai Havertz, who escaped the offside trap because Casemiro was late on the pitch, successfully stabbed into the penalty box from the right side.
Havertz sent a cross to the near post and Leandro Trossard quickly got the ball in, ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to break into Onana’s net.

MU tried to reply to the goal but they again couldn’t penetrate Arsenal’s defense. A total of eight attempts were made throughout the first half, but none of them were on target.
Until halftime the score remained 1-0 for Arsenal’s advantage.
In the second half, Arsenal were still in control of the game but had difficulty creating dangerous opportunities. Likewise, MU was forced to defend against Arsenal attacks.
Arsenal were only able to threaten Arsenal’s goal in the 64th minute when Trossard stabbed from the left side and passed Wan-Bissaka, before sending in a cross. The ball was released by Havertz and reached Martin Odegaard who immediately shot, but right into Onana’s arms.
MU’s best chance in this round came in the 77th minute through Garnacho who stabbed from the left after receiving a pass from Scott McTominay. Garnaco had space to shoot, even though the ball went wide.
Arsenal counterattacked through substitute Gabriel Martinelli in the 79th minute. Martinelli stabbed from the left side and found a gap to shoot before being pushed over by Onana.
There were no more goals until the match ended and Arsenal still won 1-0.
