Monaco will host the start of the Vuelta a España 2026

Monaco will begin the 2026 Cycling Tour of Spain, following the agreement signed this Thursday at the Yacht Club by Pierre Dartout, Minister of State of the Principality, Yann Le Moenner, CEO of Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), and Javier Guillén, director general of La Vuelta, with the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The inaugural stage will take place entirely in Monegasque territory, which will also host the start of the second stage of La Vuelta 26. In this way, La Vuelta will experience a new official start in foreign territory after those already held in Lisbon (1997), Assen (2009), Nîmes (2017) and Utrecht (2022), and those that will host Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais in 2024.

In 2026, the Principality of Monaco will add the Spanish round to the list of major sporting events held in its streets. In cycling, it already organized the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in 2009 and will once again be the protagonist of the French round hosting the start of the final time trial that will link Monaco and Nice in the last stage of the Tour de France 2024.
