Mitchell Robinson undergoes surgery for ankle injury, out for Game 1 of Knicks’ playoff series

NEW YORK (AP) — Mitchell Robinson had surgery Monday to repair the left ankle injury that kept him out of Game 1 of the Knicks’ playoff series against the Pacers, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Robinson’s surgery has not yet been publicly announced.

Robinson opted for the procedure after additional considerations by the surgeon and medical staff. The center was ruled out last week with what was called an ankle stress injury.

The plan remains for Robinson to be reevaluated in six to eight weeks, the person told the AP.

It is the second ankle surgery this season for Robinson, who led the NBA in offensive rebounds when he suffered a stress fracture in December. He returned late in the season as Isaiah Hartenstein’s backup, but was injured again against Philadelphia and missed a game in that series.

The Knicks, dealing with several injuries, are tied 2-2 against the Indiana Pacers and will host Game 5 this Tuesday.
