The Lower Austrian Lena Millonig set a new Austrian record in the 3,000 m steeplechase in 9:46.17 minutes at an athletics meeting in Karlsruhe on Saturday. Andrea Mayr had held the previous mark since 2008 with 9:47.61.
The 26-year-old Millonig beat her previous record by more than 3.5 seconds, came sixth on the night of the race and improved her chances of qualifying for the European Championships in Rome in June.
