Media: Wimmer at Austria before the end

According to media reports from Sunday evening, Michael Wimmer is about to quit as coach of Wiener Austria. As the “Krone” and the “Kurier” wrote in their online editions, the club wants to part ways with the German before the last round of the season next Saturday. Austria will then be in action in the European Cup play-off, with the semi-final against WAC. The Violets lost to Wolfsberg 4-0 at the weekend.

Wimmer should be informed of the decision by Tuesday at the latest. Sunday and Monday were training-free at Austria. According to “Krone”, the current co-coach Christian Wegleitner is being considered as a successor for the last games of the season. He coached SV Stripfing in the 2nd league until winter.

Wimmer has been Austria’s coach since January 2023. Although they managed to make it into the championship group last season, the Viennese team did not make it into the top six this year. In the qualifying group there have only been two wins in nine games so far.
