Manchester City did not miss a beat in the must-win home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Erling Haaland had a gifted day and scored 4 times: 2 penalties, a header and a nice kick. The Citizens remain 2nd in the Premier League, 1 point behind leader Arsenal with a match more to win.
The title battle in the Premier League remains a nail-biter even after matchday 36. After Arsenal’s victory earlier today, the pressure was back on Manchester City, which could not afford to make a mistake at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Erling Haaland clearly understood that message. With a flawless hat trick, he hit the visitors against the canvas before half time.
Early on, the Norwegian prize shooter coolly converted a penalty and after a good half hour he headed the score 2-0. Haaland himself provoked another penalty just before the break, which he converted for his hat trick.
Hwang gave Wolves some hope again with the tying goal soon after half-time, but Haaland immediately crushed that hope. With a nice kick he put his fourth of the match in the basket.
A fifth goal would not follow for the top scorer, who was not happy with his substitution. It was replacement Alvarez who signed for the clear 5-1 final score.
City, where substitute Doku came to relieve starter De Bruyne after 80 minutes, continues to follow in the footsteps of leader Arsenal. With one more match to win and one point behind, the reigning national champion keeps everything in his own hands.
