Danny Post (35) is in his last season as a professional footballer. The Almere City midfielder thinks he has had enough after this season, he confirms to De Telegraaf. In any case, Post waves goodbye with a nice achievement to his name. In his first – and only – Eredivisie match, he scored the first Almere goal ever at the highest level.

The visitors were leading 0-2 when coach Alex Pastoor called a player over. That player was Post, who would make history six minutes later.
With the 1-2, the veteran scored the first Eredivisie goal in the still early history of Almere City. His contribution would not increase any further after that.
This concerned Post’s only minutes this season, partly due to bad luck with injuries. A problem that has been going on for some time, the right-hander said in conversation with De Telegraaf.
“I’m quitting,” Post is clear to the newspaper. “I have thought about it for quite a long time, but it is final. The last two years I have only had minor aches and pains. It has been wonderful and I can look back on a wonderful career.”
That career led Post to (the now dissolved) HFC Haarlem, FC Groningen, SC Cambuur, FC Dordrecht and VVV-Venlo, where he experienced the heyday of his career. Post played for the Limburgers for almost nine years, seven of which as captain. Between 2017 and 2021 he made 98 Eredivisie appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists. Half a season later, Post left for Flevoland.
The midfielder thus achieved promotion last season and recently secured a second year at the highest level. Post will therefore no longer experience that second year. He hopes to make some minutes in the final round against NEC. That poster is on the agenda for next Sunday, at 2:30 PM in our own Yanmar Stadium.
