And that’s it for the UEMC Real Valladolid Basketball season. The white and purple team once again gave in to a superior Longevida San Pablo Burgos that dominated from the beginning and gave no options to make it 3-0 in the series and get a ticket to the Final Four. Paco García’s men, with pride but without legs or response to the Burgos success, did not lose face for the game at any time and put an end to a tremendously complicated and unfortunate campaign.
Of course, the squirrels said see you soon with their heads held high, very high. Without a single point guard, physically and mentally exhausted, the Valladolid team gave a lesson in pride and waste of energy against, let it be said, a truly great team and at the best moment of the season. Although on this occasion, however, the start was not entirely good. After a few minutes of delay than expected due to the umpteenth technical problem with the possession clocks, UEMC RVB and Longevida San Pablo Burgos, in a Pisuerga with a magnificent entrance, opened the contest. And it was the visitors who struck first. Unlike the first two matches of the series, the Blanquivioleta’s staging was not good and the people from Burgos, with an impeccable success, got the match back on track in just two minutes (1-9).
Jota Cuspinera’s team continued scoring in practically every possession and both teams began a few minutes of exchanging blows starring Schmidt and Speight. Two consecutive triples from the visiting point guard were matched by eight points in a row from the local striker who maintained that lead (8-14), although it was a script clearly favorable to the Azulones. A good reaction from the Blanquivioletas infected Pisuerga and the game also began to be played in the stands, with both fans cheering on their team, although on the hardwood the dominance continued to be Longevida San Pablo Burgos until the first quarter was scored (22- 27).
Punished by the continuous losses and suffering from the absence of bases, the UEMC RVB was not able to stop the success of the foreigners, who continue, as throughout the series, scoring very easily. Thus, a new partial start in the second act (0-7) increased the maximum so far (22-34) and already surpassed the psychological gap of ten points.
And the blow was severe. The Blanquivioleta could not recover, nor did an overwhelming Longevida San Pablo Burgos allow it, which smelled blood, stepped on the accelerator and escaped decisively. Another stretch to increase the haul, which was already 16 at half-time (38-54) after a first half marked by the visiting pace and with a final scare due to a possible injury to Lotanna Nwogbo. The North American center, fortunately, got up on his own feet, although he did not re-enter the court.
