Local Athletes Shine at Manitoba High School Badminton Championships: Tuxedo, Fort Richmond, St. Norbert, and More

The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association held its provincial badminton championships May 2 to 4 at the Sport Manitoba Training Centre in Winnipeg.

A number of local students were among the best in the province.

Anson Chen (St. Paul’s) won the boys varsity championship, while Ranya Narwal (Fort Richmond) was named girls varsity champion.

Jeanne-Sauvé College earned the junior varsity AAA/AAAA aggregate provincial badminton banner at the recent provincial tournament.

Miles Macdonell Collegiate’s Gia Khang Nguyen and Eilijah Revilla won the varsity boys doubles championship.

Preston Fazekas (Linden Christian) won the junior varsity boys championship, while Yujia Qin (Dakota) won the girls JV championship.

Collège Jeanne-Sauvé’s Ruszel Deluz and Tristan Cousineau won the boys junior varsity doubles title, while Noah Oman and Kendra Hancock (St. Norbert) took top spot in JV mixed doubles.

Fort Richmond Collegiate took home the varsity AAA/AAAA aggregate championship, while Collège Jeanne-Sauvé earned the junior varsity AAA/AAAA banner.
