2:05 p.m. -63kg: Horikawa did not weigh heavily against Agbegnenou
Compared to the titanic duel of the second round (already) of the Paris Grand Slam in February, which lasted more than twelve minutes, this new clash between the French champion and one of the most dangerous Japanese of the moment (crowned world champion in 2022) will not really have happened. The Japanese tried hard on ura-nage or uchi-mata, it was Agbegnenou who led the operations, pushing Horikawa to collect two false attacks for lack of a real solution. She also revised her technical repertoire, from o-uchi-gari to tani-otoshi, including her koshi-guruma which crossed the Japanese for waza-ari, in addition to bringing her into an ideal situation to conclude in immobilization. Clear, crisp and precise!

1:40 p.m. At the height of incomprehension
Two grotesque situations in a few minutes at the Mubadala Arena: in -63kg, the Belgian-Cape Verdean Sandrine Billiet had just been declared victorious against the Kazakhstani Esmigul Kuyulova, punished by an attack from behind between the legs. The two women left, one crying, the other limping, before being called back a full minute later. Cancellation of the decision taken after recourse to the supervisors, and resumption of the fight, which the Kazakhstani ultimately won. The time to turn our gaze to the central mat we saw the distraught Dutchman Frank De Wit, asked to leave the area after leaving the mat synonymous with a third penalty. In detail, it was while he was trying to initiate a reversal by passing the hooks on the Tajik Makhmadbekov who had fallen on all fours that he left the yellow square…

1:05 p.m. -81kg : Master’s boy
In a low dynamic since the start of the year (not classified in the Portuguese GP, at the Paris and Antalya GCs and during the European championships), Alpha Djalo can make its world championships a new launching pad before the big Paris Olympic meeting. It starts well, with mastery, against the German Dominic Ressel, 32nd in the world, in bronze at the European Championships in Montpellier at the beginning of last November, but who has just completed seven consecutive competitions without being ranked. A Franco/German duel dominated by the French European medalist (they were both on the box in Montpellier) who was both dominant in the kumikata, more lively on the attacks and less physically attacked. Three penalties for Ressel who clearly seemed to be struggling. Next fight against the Uzbek buffalo Sharoffidin Boltaboev.

1:00 p.m. -63kg: Agbegnenou serious
She will have taken her time in order to optimally enter her competition. Facing the Polish Natalia Kropska, 24 years old and 79th in the world, Clarisse Agbegnenou was, as usual, very focused. Don’t make a mistake then take charge, that was the winning tactic: a first waza-ari on ko-soto-gake then an o-soto-gari a few seconds later and that’s it.
The serious action begins now with the Japanese Megumi Horikawa in the next round. Their duel in Paris was one of the most beautiful fights of the three days of competition. A Japanese woman, also entered her competition perfectly since she clearly beat the young Italian Savita Russo, still a junior, but already a senior European medalist in Zagreb.

12:30 p.m. -81kg: Zoubko beaten from the start
The draw did not spoil Daniyl Zoubko for his first world championships: Somon Makhmadbekov, No. 7 in the world ranking list and seeded No. 7 this morning. A fighter who scored on a tani-otoshi after only thirty seconds. Zoubko, led very quickly, then mainly sought to neutralize his opponent’s left arm by focusing on his sleeve, without hardly trying to take the initiative. However, it was the Tajik who was penalized for non-combativity. Then it was the turn of the two judokas to take this same sanction again. Despite a last attempt at sumi-gaeshi from Zoubko, Makhmadbekov won, looking rather serene. Alpha Djalo, the other -81kg tricolor, starts in around fifteen minutes.

12:00 p.m. Start of the third day
Three French people in the running: Clarisse Agbegnenou (RSC Champigny) in -63kg, reigning world champion. Queen Clarisse who will seek a seventh world title and could thus join Ryoko Tamura-Tani, the Japanese legend of -48kg (who won them with world championships every two years). For men, Daniyl Zoubko (ES Blanc-Mesnil Judo) and Alpha Djalo (PSG Judo).
Zoubko will be the first to enter the fray, in the eighth fight on mat 2 against Tajik Somon Makhmadbekov.
