Ligue 2: in Bastia, Paris FC is expecting “no gifts” in its race for the playoffs

The recent history of Paris FC has already passed through Bastia. In 2017, the capital club benefited from the Corsicans filing for bankruptcy to be drafted into Ligue 2 and begin its growth by becoming a club that matters at this level. This Friday, May 17, it is on the Furiani field that the Parisian club will play out its future and give itself the right to dream of Ligue 1 through the accession play-offs.

For Paris FC (4th, 58 pts, + 7), the equation is simple. A success in Bastia would allow him to keep his 4th place. With a draw, he would be guaranteed to be at least 5th. On the other hand, in the event of defeat, it will be necessary to calculate in relation to the results of Rodez (5th, 57 pts, + 9) which hosts AC Ajaccio and Caen (6th, 55 pts, + 3) which hosts Valenciennes.

The challenge of a 4th place is that it will allow us to receive the first playoff, this Tuesday. When we see what happened against Angers and especially Guingamp, certainly the most beautiful atmosphere ever experienced at Charléty, this can be important.

A playoff match at home, the goal

“As I have already said, there is something that has been created in the stands,” underlines Stéphane Gilli. Against Guingamp, it was really great. We have already played in a busy Charléty like against Lens with Mécha (Bazdarevic) in the playoffs in 2019 but there are a lot of Lensois and also simple spectators. There, we feel that we really have supporters behind us. That’s why we would all like to play a playoff game at home. The advantage is that we have our destiny in our hands. If we take the three points, there will be no calculations to do. »

Decisive for Paris FC, this match in Bastia will be a clash between two clubs which maintain very friendly relations. The two presidents Pierre Ferracci and Claude Ferrandi appreciate each other and communicate regularly. The PFC has already lent its Orly facilities to the Bastiais in transit to Paris and everyone found their benefit during the latest transfer operations carried out between the two clubs.

The Cardinal-Alfarela exchange in June 2022 allowed SCB to receive a sum of money then a percentage on the resale of the right piston to Lens. Last summer, Loup Diwan Gueho was sold for free (with a percentage on a possible resale) by the Parisian club.

So much for context. But that doesn’t mean Paris FC expects to receive any gifts this Friday from Furiani. At the end of the cycle (coach, players, etc.) before the official takeover of Frédéric Antonetti, appointed technical director, Bastia wants to end on a positive note in front of its public which it has often disappointed this season. Especially since this will be the last match of the historic Jojo-Petrignani stand (East) before work.

Beware of overconfidence

“They got out of a situation that was delicate at one point with a record of 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in their last 8 matches, and there are a lot of elements that make them want to perform against us, explains Stéphane Gilli. In Ligue 2, there are no teams that give gifts. Bastia will not give us any gifts like I hope Valenciennes to Caen and Ajaccio to Rodez. But I have no doubt about it. »

The Paris FC coach warned his group: “I warned them again this morning (Thursday) against being overconfident. You have to stay careful and keep in mind that it will be a very difficult match. We will have to be aggressive and intense from the start, and be technically correct in our races and movements. »

Leaving this Friday morning by private plane for Corsica, the group picks up Samir Chergui, who was injured (knee) against Guingamp. Lamine Gueye and Pierre-Yves Hamel who have resumed collective training are not yet ready.
