Ligue 1: at the end of his contract, Wissam Ben Yedder leaves AS Monaco

Wissam Ben Yedder and AS Monaco, it’s over. After an adventure of five seasons, which began in 2019, the 33-year-old striker officially leaves the Principality, where his contract ended on June 30.

With 118 goals in 201 matches, all competitions combined, the native of Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) leaves with the status of second top scorer in the history of ASM, behind the Argentinian Dellio Onnis and his 223 goals. “Thank you Wissam,” the Ligue 1 club posted on its social networks.

“Everyone knows Wissam’s qualities, those of an exceptional striker, with an incredible sense of the game and goal. What he did on the pitch during these five seasons will remain in the history of the Club. We wish him the best for the future,” writes Thiago Scuro, general director of AS Monaco in a press release.

The sporting future of the French international (19 caps) has yet to be written. Where will he play next season? The question remains unanswered. Especially since an important legal aspect is still underway. In August 2023, Wissam Ben Yedder was indicted for rape, attempted rape and sexual assault by the Nice prosecutor’s office (Alpes-Maritimes). The footballer and his brother, also indicted for the same reasons, are suspected of rapes committed on two women aged 19 and 20 during an evening in July 2023.

The case is still ongoing. A confrontation was organized on Thursday, May 16 between Wissam Ben Yedder, Sabri Ben Yedder and the two complainants, as informed The Team. Both men dispute the facts. The Nice public prosecutor’s office has not yet communicated the outcome of the case: a dismissal of the case or a referral to court.
