Leon Draisaitl starts with victory in Conference Finals with Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl have made a successful start to the Conference Finals of the North American professional ice hockey league NHL after a thrilling game. The team led by the German superstar won 3-2 away against the favored Dallas Stars in the second overtime on Thursday (local time).

Draisaitl put the Oilers in the lead at the start of the second period. It was his 25th point (9 goals, 16 assists) in the 13th playoff game this season. After Zach Hyman made it 2-0, the Oilers – as they have done so often this season – squandered a lead and conceded the 2-2 a few minutes before the end of the game. Tyler Seguin scored both goals for the Stars. But Edmonton showed morale and could rely on its other superstar. Connor McDavid scored the decisive goal 32 seconds after the start of the second overtime.

The series continues with the next home game for the Dallas Stars on Saturday (local time). A total of four wins are needed to reach the NHL finals. Edmonton last reached the conference finals in 2022, but was clearly defeated by eventual champions Colorado Avalanche (0:4).
