LeBron James Breaks Records Once Again: The Best NBA Quintets of the Season

The Best Quintets were missing and we already have them. With that, all the awards for the NBA regular season have been awarded and only those for the playoffs remain to be known, including the new champion. And there is always news, although the fact that LeBron James breaks a new record stopped being so a long time ago: the King continues to make longevity his last argument to become the best player of all time and sneaks into the Third Best Quintet of the season, adding 20 appearances in the Best Quintets. That is, 20 seasons out of 21 being at least among the 15 best players in the competition. An absolute record that he adds to those he already has in relation to said honor, since he is also the one who has the most appearances in the first with 13 times. No comment.

There have been no surprises in the rest of the names. Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic have been in the Best Quintet, no surprise as they are the first three in the voting for the MVP, which the Serbian has won for the third time in his career. The Slovenian, for his part, continues his path to Olympus and adds his fifth consecutive presence, all since his first season, in which he won the Rookie of the Year. Also among the five best are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum, so Doncic is the only one of said quintet who remains alive in the playoffs and with a chance for a ring.

In the Second Best Quintet we see two players who could have perfectly made it into the first: Jalen Brunson and Anthony Edwards. But there is not room for everyone and both players, who have put together legendary individual performances and sublime seasons, have had to settle for the second group of most outstanding basketball players in the North American competition in the 2023-24 season. Next to them is Anthony Davis, who has been at a brilliant level. And also Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard, two old glories who sneak into the top ten, but could very well have been further back. As always, the debate is served, something inherent to an NBA that lives on constant narrative. Of this group, the only one who remains in the playoffs is Anthony Edwards, leader of the Timberwolves.

In the Third Best Quintet is where we find LeBron, who is relegated to said group despite averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists, something that could have perfectly placed him in any of the above. But the change of era is notorious and the great glories of the past have to give way to the new ones. Of course, that has not prevented the King from breaking a new record, another one. One that he already had and that now only increases. In this quintet, which always serves to place a player of this profile, we also find Stephen Curry, another one who dances like that and who continues at a high level despite the passage of time. The collection is completed by Domantas Sabonis, Devin Booker and Tyrese Haliburton. And he’s done. The prizes are over. For now, of course.
