Lautaro Martínez reached an agreement with Inter Milan to sign his renewal until mid-2029. The Argentine national team forward has a contract until June 2026, but after negotiations everything is in place for the 26-year-old from Bahia to play in the neroazzurro team until 2029. El Toro became the captain of the team that has just become champion of Serie A, in which he is also the top scorer.

“I want to renew with Inter, I hope this can be closed,” said Lautaro after winning the Scudetto the day Inter won the classic 2-1 against Milan. The attacker knew that his renewal was close and was aware of the negotiations between his representative, Alejandro Camaño, and Inter’s emissaries on March 13 in Madrid, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

That had been the last meeting between the parties to finish outlining the conditions for the new signing, which would arrive once the Italian championship ends, on the weekend of May 26. The signing would be before El Toro travels with the Argentine team for the Copa América that will be held in the United States, from June 20 to July 14.

The aforementioned Italian media reveals that the key to the negotiation was the rapprochement between the parties, what the footballer asked for and what the club, which belongs to Chinese businessman Steve Zhang, offered: 10 million euros (10.7 million dollars) per season is Lautaro’s last request, 8 ($8.5 million) is the offer from Zhang’s club. The signing will reach 9 million ($9.6 million) per season.

The new deadline will be, at least according to the latest conversations, until 2029, that is, a new five-year period starting July 1, which is why the official status, excluding the actual signing, could be postponed until July. Martínez is the top scorer in Serie A with three dates remaining. He has 23 points. In the accumulated of all competitions, he reached 26 shouts in 42 games.

Despite the agreement, Inter’s intermediaries could not formalize the new link because they must wait for Zhang to define the loan refinancing operation, without which it is not possible to move on to the operational phase of the renewals. This applies to Martínez, but also to coach Simone Inzaghi and midfielder Nicolo Barella.

A couple of curiosities aside from the next agreement: there is no termination clause. The parties have never discussed it, Lautaro has never requested it, it has never been on the table as an eventuality. And he is symptomatic of how much the Argentine sees himself at Inter: he does not want any way out, he does not ask for the possibility of leaving even if he had a great offer.

Another step worth highlighting: the new contract will include bonuses. And some of them will be related not only to victories, but also to European competitions and other international competitions such as the new Club World Cup that Inter will play in 2025.

Therefore, Lautaro and Inter Milan are destined to be picked again. And it’s not that the Argentine lacks hiring opportunities. Even in recent months its surroundings have been explored by big clubs, some market operators swear that PSG has also thought about it, although there is no confirmation in this regard from France.

“I feel good in Milan,” Lautaro Martínez often repeats. Everything is given for him to stay at Inter, the club where he broke into Europe in mid-2018 and managed to become one of the best forwards in the world.
