Last-minute victory keeps Standard excited until the end of women’s Super League play-offs

We will be excited until the last day of the women’s Super League play-offs. Standard had to win at AA Gent or Anderlecht could have won the title in Bruges on Saturday. That also happened: at half time the final score was already on the board.

Standard and Anderlecht have been playing leapfrog with each other all the time in the play-offs. The Purple & White entered the last 2 matchdays with a 2-point lead.

That meant that Standard had to win at Ghent so as not to have to hope for help from Club YLA to keep their title dreams alive.

Standard had won quite easily against Ghent on the opening match day and did not have too many problems with the East Flemish women.

A nice kick from Justine Blave and a header from Maud Coutereels put Standard in the saddle before half time and they did not lose again in the 2nd half.

Standard jumps back into the lead over Anderlecht, although possibly only until tomorrow afternoon.
