La Gomera Badminton Team Shines at Canary Islands Championship with Three Bronze Medals

The Gomera badminton team participated last weekend in the Canary Islands Championship in the children’s and cadet categories. This is the main annual event for this sport that brings together participants from all the islands and in which La Gomera was represented with a delegation made up of 13 athletes.

Over the course of the championship, the La Gomera delegation won three bronze medals: in the mixed children’s doubles with Jacob Acosta and Ariana Goncalves, in the mixed cadet doubles with Lucía Rosales and Carlos Rodríguez, and finally, in the women’s children’s doubles, Daria Toporivschi and Sara Bello. In addition, the following were also part of the group of athletes: Aday Negrín, Samuel Contreras, Luisa Reif, Yara Negrín, Marta Morales, Mael Bethencourt and David Rodríguez.

The Minister of Sports, Guillermo Medina, has congratulated the participants and reiterated the Council’s commitment to promoting sports activities and cooperation with the groups that contribute to this end. In this sense, he recalled that nearly 200 thousand euros are allocated to direct incentives for the operation of clubs and sports entities, “in a sign of the commitment of this Corporation.”
