Kristijan Jakic didn’t need much time to get going after his loan from Frankfurt to FC Augsburg. Two days after his signing, he came on as a substitute against Gladbach and in FCA’s first home game of the year against FC Bayern, the number six was in the starting eleven. Since then, he has been an indispensable part of the team. In total, the 27-year-old, whom the Fuggerstadt team brought in due to Niklas Dorsch’s injury at the time, made 14 appearances in the calendar year 2024 (13 from the start).

Accordingly, it was no surprise that Augsburg announced the permanent signing of Jakic on Friday. They used the purchase option, which is said to be worth five million euros. “After his move, Kristijan quickly integrated into the team and proved that he is an important building block for our team with his personality and style of play,” explains sporting director Marinko Jurendic.

Jakic signs four-year contract

The Croatian, who signed a four-year contract, was also happy about his permanent move. “My hopes and expectations for the winter move have been fulfilled. We have developed very well as a team and I was able to make a contribution to that,” said Jakic.

Frankfurt is losing a hero of the 2022 Europa League triumph. Jakic had developed into an important player for Eintracht immediately after his move from Dinamo Zagreb in 2021 and had, among other things, made twelve appearances in the Europa League. But in the first half of the last season he mostly had to watch (only four appearances in the Bundesliga), so he moved to Augsburg in search of more match practice. This loan turned out to be a win-win situation, as the permanent signing proves.
