JC Wimpassing fighter Michaela Polleres also puts the competition to the mat in Dushanbe and is already celebrating her second Grand Slam success of the season after her victory in Antalya, Turkey.

The World Cup and the Olympics can come. Michaela Polleres confirmed her top form at the Grand Slam in Dushbane (Tajikistan) and won her second gold medal in 2024 after Antalya at the end of March. In the final, the 26-year-old lived up to her role as favorite against Croatian Lara Cvjetko, number seven in the world.

The woman from Ternitz won early (3:36 minutes net fight time) with two Waza-ari scores (Ura-nage, counter technique). Overall, Polleres has been unbeaten on the World Tour for ten fights. On the way to the final on Saturday she beat Gabriella Willems (Belgium), Szabina Gercsak (Hungary) and Anka Pogacnik (Slovenia). Polleres had previously lost no less than six times in a row against the Slovenian. Judo Austria sports director Markus Moser: “Of course, this victory did Michaela a lot of good morally.”

The athlete herself says in retrospect: “A really strong day for Austria, simply wonderful. I was in a really good mood and fought very well. It was the right decision that I decided not to take part in the European Championships and instead trained in peace and quiet. The preparation was ideal, I was able to implement everything from the training on the mat today. I’m happy about my two Grand Slam wins in a row and now I’m looking forward to the World Cup in Abu Dhabi. We are ready.”
