Jessica Pegula withdraws from Roland-Garros

Jessica Pegula will not participate in Roland-Garros this year (May 26-June 9). The 30-year-old American, fifth in the world, announced her withdrawal from the French Grand Slam which begins on Sunday. Victim of an injury the nature of which she did not reveal, Pegula has already skipped Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome.

“I’m about to return to normal practice […] If I had another 5-7 days, I would have been there 100%,” she said on social media on Thursday. Pegula also announced her return for the grass season, which she hopes to play in full. On clay, this season she only played in the WTA 500 tournament in Charleston where she lost in the semi-finals to Russian Daria Kasatkina (11th).
