The Patriots already know who they’ll play in the 2024 season, but they’ll soon find out when those games will be.
The 2024 NFL schedule will be released on Wednesday at 8 p.m., allowing teams and fans to mark their calendars for the fall.
A handful of matchups have already been announced, with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Kickoff Game on Thursday, Sept. 5. The game continues the tradition of the defending Super Bowl champion hosting the first game of the ensuing regular season as the Chiefs seek to become the first team to three-peat in NFL history.
Later in Week 1, the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles will meet on Friday, Sept. 6, for the NFL’s first regular season game to ever be played in Brazil. Tom Brady will make his broadcasting debut for Fox Sports two days later, calling the Cowboys-Browns matchup in Cleveland. Aaron Rodgers’s return from his Achilles tear will end Week 1 when the Jets take on the 49ers in San Francisco on “Monday Night Football.”
A pair of Week 2 matchups have also been announced. The Bills and Dolphins will meet in Miami for the “Thursday Night Football” game on Amazon that week. The Cincinnati Bengals and Chiefs will also meet up in Week 2, marking the first time that Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes will meet since the 2022 AFC Championship Game.
Beyond the first two weeks, the NFL is expected to have another tripleheader on Thanksgiving Day. They’ll also have a doubleheader on Christmas Day even though it falls on a Wednesday.
Specific dates and kickoff times for Patriots games have not been announced yet. Because it’s an even year, the Patriots will only play eight games at home as NFC teams will have nine designated home games in 2024. The AFC and NFC have rotated which team gets nine home games each year since a 17th game was added to the regular-season schedule in 2021.
New England is set to take on all four teams from the AFC South and NFC West divisions in 2024. They’ll also face their three AFC East rivals two times each, as usual.
There’s been some speculation that the Patriots could be making another overseas trip in 2024. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who the Patriots are scheduled to face on the road, are set to host another game in London this season. The Patriots are also expecting Jerod Mayo’s first game as head coach to be on the road, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Sunday.
