The list of Japanese badminton players participating in the Paris Olympics has been announced, and 12 players have been selected, including Akane Yamaguchi, who will be participating in three consecutive women’s singles tournaments.

The Japan Badminton Association held a press conference in Tokyo on the 21st and announced the list.

Twelve athletes in five sports were selected to represent Japan at the Paris Olympics.

Among these, in the women’s singles, Yamaguchi, who is ranked 4th in the world with achievements such as winning two consecutive world championships until the year before last, was selected for three consecutive competitions.

Also, in men’s singles, 22-year-old Kodai Naraoka, who has shown great growth by recording good results in international competitions since the Tokyo Olympics and finishing second at last year’s World Championships, was selected for the first time.

In the women’s doubles event, the pair of Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama, who overcame fierce representative competition, were selected for the first time, and in the mixed doubles event, the pair of Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, who won bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics, were selected for the second consecutive competition.

Coach Park Joo-bong of the Japanese national team said, “This is a re-challenge from the Tokyo Olympics, which ended with only one bronze medal,” and added, “What is important is how well we can maintain our condition during the remaining period until the competition.”
