Jamie Leweling Impresses VfB Stuttgart, Secures Permanent Deal

Jamie Leweling used the end of the season for his own benefit and once again showed VfB Stuttgart his full potential. Now the Swabians are taking the option to buy the 23-year-old.

As Union Berlin announced on Sunday, Stuttgart has drawn “an appropriate purchase option” for Leweling. The Swabians also gave the winger a contract until June 30, 2028. Last summer, the Swabians borrowed the offensive player from Union Berlin for around 200,000 euros. He still had a contract there until 2026. That’s why a transfer fee of around five million euros is now due for Leweling.

“Jamie rose to his challenge and was able to make the most of his time at VfB Stuttgart,” said Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert in the club’s statement. “It is therefore logical that he and VfB want to continue on this path. We wish him continued success.”

Leweling himself is looking forward to “a familiar but also new challenge” and states in the VfB statement: “I had a bit of a hard time getting into it at the beginning of the season, but was able to improve over the course of the season and am on the right track. This The season was just incredible.”

Although the headlines for the successful Swabians were mostly written by other players, Leweling is a real long-running favorite in coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team and has continued to improve over the course of the season. The nimble player on the right wing was on the pitch in all competitive games. Most recently he was nominated for the starting lineup seven times in a row and pushed Silas to the bench at VfB.

However, it took until the 19th matchday before Leweling broke the knot in front of the goal. He scored his first goal on the Neckar in the furious 5-2 win against RB Leipzig. In total, he has now scored four goals and six assists, making the decision for a permanent commitment much easier for the Swabians.

“His commitment and willingness to work for the team make him a very valuable player for us,” praised VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “We also see further development potential in Jamie and that is why we have decided to tie Jamie to VfB for the long term.”
