Jack Draper hopes to take the next step forward by working with Wayne Ferreira.

As a player, South African Wayne Ferreira reached number 6 in the world rankings. In addition to his two semi-final appearances at the Australian Open, the now 52-year-old should also be particularly proud of his 2-1 record against tennis legend Roger Federer, whom he defeated twice at Masters level in 2001. But even as a coach he has hardly been inferior to his individual successes. In his almost three-year collaboration with Frances Tiafoe, he led the American, among other things, to the semi-finals at the US Open 2022 and from 80th place to the top 10.

And it is precisely this expertise of the two-time Masters title holder that British youngster Jack Draper now wants to take advantage of. As the British “Daily Mail” reports, the former South African Davis Cup winner is strengthening the team with the talented left-hander alongside the previous coach James Trotman, who is employed by the British Tennis Association LTA.

Ferreira was reportedly spotted helping prepare Draper for the ATP Masters event in Rome at the British Tennis Association’s National Tennis Center in Roehampton in recent days. It remains unclear whether the former Hopman Cup winner’s commitment is a permanent commitment or a project-related activity. The next goal for Draper, who is currently ranked 43rd in the world, is to get into the top 32 players in the rankings in order to appear in the seeding list at the Masters tournaments and the Grand Slams.

Last season, Draper had to miss the entire grass season due to a torn tendon in his shoulder. After his comeback at the Challenger in Winnipeg, Canada, the British Davis Cup player rose from 123rd place to the top 40 in seven months.
