“It was an anti-system vote” -It’s all a lie-

Last Saturday, May 11, the Eurovision Festival in Malmö, Sweden. The winner of the night was Switzerland thanks to Nemo and the song ‘The Code’, which obtained a total of 591 points. Spain, represented by Nebulossa and her ‘Zorra’, has obtained the 22nd position with 30 points.

However, the presence of boos and complaints during rehearsals at Israel’s performance and the success of the same group during the televoting, and the comments it has raised, somewhat tarnished the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. To this has been added the statements of Eric Miller, European Commission Chief Spokesperson, asking for explanations for the veto his flag.

To learn more about the geopolitical revolution that has been unleashed and the possible reasons that made Israel one of the countries most supported by televoting, we spoke with Antonio Obregonprofessor of International Relations.

What happened to televoting?

In reference to Israel being one of the most voted countries, this expert pointed to the way to vote at Eurovision and explained: “The person votes for a song and it should be the one they like the most based on artistic criteria. However, there has been a group of people who have gathered around the Israeli song to express a protest vote, an anti-system vote”.

In summary, this expert in international relations stressed that certain groups of ideologies specific people have wanted to protest against the ideas of those who are in favor of Palestine and they wanted to expel and exclude Israel from Eurovision. It must be remembered that even 15 countries supported Israel in the votes, including Spain, and granted it the high score.

Finally, Risto Mejide asked this expert if the organization is right to accept this type of countries in conflict and why it had been excluded Russia: “In the case of Russia there is a formal legal reason and that is that the public television stations are the ones that participate and in Russia, in the opinion of the EU, do not meet independence standards requested.” In addition, he added, a group of countries requested that he not participate and yet with Israel this had not happened.
