The complaint from a young adult, aged 19, sparked the investigation. At the start of the year, she reported to the gendarmes sexual assault and rape of which she was allegedly a victim when she was only 16 years old, between 2021 and 2023, according to her. The facts allegedly took place within the premises of the ES2B club (Entente sportive 2 badminton) in Berrwiller, Staffelfelden and Bollwiller, but also during competition trips and in particular in Meurthe-et-Moselle while the teenager was staying in a hotel room.
The investigation was entrusted to the judicial support brigade, a specialized unit set up at the Mulhouse gendarmerie company and whose investigators are trained to work on cases of domestic violence and attacks on minors that this involves reporting violence or acts of a sexual nature. Five judicial police officers trained for the Mélanie hearings
worked on this investigation.
There could be other victims
From a source close to the case, there could be other victims of this coach, aged 42, employed by the association founded in 2003. Several dozen people were interviewed as part of this preliminary investigation. The man was finally arrested on May 13. After 48 hours of police custody, he was presented to a Mulhouse investigating judge.
“He was indicted for acts of sexual assault and rape of a minor over 15 years old by a person in authority. He was placed in pre-trial detention in accordance with the prosecutor’s orders. The opening of the judicial investigation should make it possible to establish whether there were other victims,” confirms the public prosecutor of Mulhouse, Edwige Roux-Morizot. The forty-year-old admitted the sexual relations, but he claims that they were consensual. He risks 20 years of criminal imprisonment for acts of rape of a minor under 15 years old by a person who abuses the authority conferred on him by his functions.
