Indonesian U-23 National Team Falls Short of Direct Olympic Qualification After Loss to Iraq

tvOnenews.com – The Indonesian U-23 national team failed to have a direct ticket to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics because they lost to Iraq in the race for third place in the U-23 Asian Cup.

The score ended 1-2 for Iraq U-23’s victory at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Thursday (2/5/2024).

As a result of this defeat, the Indonesian U-23 National Team must go through the play-off round at the 2024 Paris Olympics against Guinea in Paris, 9 May 2024.

The goal scorer in that match, Ivar Jenner, also confirmed that the Indonesian U-23 National Team would follow Iraq to the Olympics in the Iraqi media, Iraq Football Gallery.

“Yes, of course we are disappointed that we lost because we were 1-0 up and we played very well, Iraq was a very good opponent, we are disappointed because we lost the opportunity to qualify directly for the Olympics,” said Ivar Jener.

Ivar Jenner admitted that this was a good achievement because this tournament was the debut of the U-23 Indonesian National Team in the history of the U-23 Asian Cup.
