In the fight for survival, Union Berlin separates from its coach two days from the end

Union Berlin is experiencing a nightmare season, far from its expectations. Last year, the capital club finished in 4th place in the Bundesliga, which allowed them to play in the group stage of the Champions League. But this season, Lucas Tousart’s club, beaten at home on Sunday by Bochum (3-4), is struggling at the bottom of the ranking and is in 15th place with only one point ahead of Mainz, 16th and play-off.

The Berlin club announced Monday that it was parting ways with its coach Nenad Bjelica. The interim will be carried out by Marco Grote, who had already led this mission for around ten days last November between the dismissal of Urs Fischer and the appointment of Bjelica.

For the last two matches of the season, the Union will go to Cologne, 17th and first relegated with 24 points, on Saturday, then receive Fribourg, in the race for a European place in 7th place (41 points), a week later. For its part, Mainz will host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday before traveling to Wolfsburg for the final day.
