Imaculado Coração de Maria Parish Council to Launch Walking Football for Seniors in 2024/2025 Academic Year

The Parish Council of Imaculado Coração de Maria will launch a new activity for the population over 50 years old, within the scope of its Senior University, in the next academic year 2024/2025. This is ‘walking football’, a variant of football, in which running is not allowed, which is played on a field measuring 40×20 meters, between two teams of five players each, without goalkeepers.

Walking Football aims to encourage people over the age of 50 to practice sports, promoting integration and coexistence in favor of a more active life, in a fight against isolation and a sedentary lifestyle.

In Madeira, the project is being promoted through a partnership between the University of Madeira and the Madeira Football Association, and the project was presented, this Monday, to members of the Senior University of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The presentation of the project, held at the APEL School, was carried out by the Physical Education department of the University of Madeira, represented by Francisco Santos, Francisco Teixeira and Tiago Romão.

On the occasion, the president of the Parish Council, Pedro Araújo, highlighted “the growing importance of practical activities in the context of senior universities across the country, a trend confirmed by RUTIS that Imaculado intends to follow”.
