Ignacio Buse Continues Winning Streak on Spanish Soil

Ignacio Buse (380° ATP) continues his good streak on Spanish soil. The Peruvian started a new weekly tournament, the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 ‘III Torneig Internacional Ciutat de Mataró’ in Barcelona. ‘Nachito’, 20 years old, debuted with victory by easily beating the local Albert Pedrico Karatsov (1307th) in two sets (6-2 and 6-0) to sign his place in the round of 16 of the international competition.

Buse controlled the game easily against Pedrico Karastsov, he built his plays well and finished without any problems, after one hour and 13 minutes of action. Curiously, this same rival was the one he faced last Sunday in the M25 final in Vic in Catalonia, so he beat him again in less than three days.

His next rival will be the Spanish Max Alcala Gurri, 21 years old and ranked 595th, in the round of 16 of the M25 in Mataró, a match to be played this Thursday, May 23 at 5:00 am (Peruvian time) . The Iberian has just defeated the British Zach Stephens 6-0 and 6-3 in the first round.

As you remember, Buse comes from six consecutive victories, between the M25 of Vic and the M25 of Mataró. As a result of his good form, he just won his third professional title last weekend, the first of the current season, so he is one of the candidates in this new tournament in Catalonia.

How did Ignacio Buse become a tennis player?

In his adolescence, Ignacio Buse was close to deciding on gastronomy (his uncle is the well-known chef Gastón Acurio), but his mother recommended that he bet on tennis, and he listened to her and also to his heart. “When I was little he told my mother: ‘I want to be a chef,’ and my mother warned me about what being a chef involves. ‘You have to start washing dishes, working in restaurants until four in the morning, you’re not going to like that life. If you love being on a tennis court, you’re not going to enjoy it,’ she told me,” she confessed in an interview.

Then he was presented with an opportunity to study in the United States, but his VISA was rejected. This impediment made her dedicate herself more to tennis and that was how he decided that he was going to be a professional tennis player. “I was going to play college tennis, but it didn’t come out. There was a problem with the residency process that didn’t work out. Luckily it didn’t work out,” she added.

His dream is to transcend, surpass the history of his grandfather Enrique Buse and one day win the Roland Garros. “I feel capable, why not dream of one day winning a Roland Garros,” he said at the end of 2023, in an interview on the Set Paralelo program. So far, he has made it clear that he is learning fast and that, if he continues on that path, he will go very far.
