After 38 minutes, the Canadians were leading 6-1, and everything looked like a clear success for the favorites. The Austrians were able to equalize the game within 16 minutes – with the goal to make it 6:6 shortly before the end, they secured extra time. There, Canada’s captain John Tavares scored after 15 seconds to make it 7:6 and thus made the victory clear for the Canadians.

Dylan Cozens (7th minute), Kaiden Guhle (10th), Bowen Byram (14th), Jared McCann (23rd), Connor Bedard (30th) and Pierre-Luc Dubois (38th) also scored for Canada. The Austrian goals were scored by Benjamin Nissner (11th), Benjamin Baumgartner (44th), Peter Schneider (45th), Dominic Zwerger (51st) and Marco Rossi (60th). For Austria it is the third defeat in a row after the games against Denmark and Switzerland.

The German national team lost 1:6 against the USA in their last game. Nevertheless, Germany still has good cards in the competition. In the first game against Slovakia the team scored 6:4. Germany is currently runner-up in the world championships and is aiming for the quarter-finals as the minimum goal of the World Cup.
