Iberdrola Expands Support for Women’s Sports with Addition of Three New Federations and 800,000 Female Athletes Promoted

Iberdrola has increased its commitment to women’s sports after incorporating three new federations to its support network, reaching 35 and promoting 800,000 female athletes.

After the incorporation of the golf, paddle tennis and cycling federations, Iberdrola now promotes the National Federations of athletics, badminton, handball, boxing, ice sports, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, karate, canoeing, rugby, surfing, tennis table tennis, triathlon, volleyball, underwater activities, bowling, winter sports, weightlifting, judo, Olympic wrestling, mountain and climbing, swimming, skating, ball, rowing, squash, taekwondo, tennis, archery and sailing.

The company’s support directly reaches 160 women’s competitions, in addition to the indirect influence on the benefit of more women and girls who practice grassroots sports.

The president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán and around 200 athletes participated in the presentation ceremony of the expansion of this initiative, held at the National Golf Center and led by Mónica Carrillo.

Among the participants were Ana Peláez, Iberdrola ambassador and champion of the Ladies Open de Madrid 2022; Esmeralda Racionero, member of the junior national cycling team; and María Silvela, world champion and 13-time Spanish padel champion.

Also attending the event were Belén Toimil (athlete), Lydia Valentín (retired weightlifter), Sandra Sánchez (retired karateka), Janire González (surfer), Laura Fuertes (boxer), Laura Martínez (judoka), Desirée Vila (adapted athlete), María Laborda (climber), María Vicente (athlete), Nuria Rodríguez (skater) and Ona Carbonell (synchronized swimmer).
