Holstein Kiel Working Hard to Meet Bundesliga Stadium Requirements

Bundesliga newcomer Holstein Kiel is working hard to meet the German Football League’s requirements for the stadium. The DFL had set ten conditions for the club. “We have started everything and are confident that we will be able to meet the deadline by the beginning of August,” said Kiel’s president Steffen Schneekloth.

The construction measures in the 15,000-seat Holstein Stadium, which is owned by the city of Kiel, include a number of improvements to the media areas, as well as the area for away fans and improvements to the floodlights. The DFL granted an exception with a view to an “impending” new stadium construction.

Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther had also called for this. “Of course, the stadium really has to be made suitable for the Bundesliga in the long term. There are still a few things to be done, that’s clear to everyone,” the CDU politician told SID: “Holstein Kiel needs a stadium in the Bundesliga that is geared towards this in the long term. We are working hard on this.”

The renovation will increase the stadium capacity to 25,000 spectators, with estimated costs totaling around 75 million euros. Construction is expected to begin in autumn 2025.
