Hoeneß statements are no reason for Rangnick to be rejected

According to ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick, Uli Hoeneß’s statements had no influence on his rejection from Bayern Munich. “I have had a very friendly relationship with Uli Hoeneß for a long time,” Rangnick told “Kicker” (Tuesday).

“Contrary to some media reports, his public statements had no influence on my decision to stay at the ÖFB.” Hoeneß had confirmed a week earlier at a panel discussion that the Munich team only asked Rangnick after Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann had turned them down.

Rummenigge calls for more discretion

Meanwhile, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has called on those responsible at FC Bayern to be more discreet when looking for a coach. He himself is no longer directly involved in the current issues at the German record champions, as he resigned as CEO in 2021.

“However, I can only recommend becoming a little more reserved again,” said the 68-year-old in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “AS” addressed to his successors.

The Munich team, who are second in the league and will face Real Madrid away in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday, are still looking for a new coach since the decision to part ways with coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season after several rejections.
