Hertha BSC Set to Appoint Cristian Fiel as New Head Coach

Second division club Hertha BSC has apparently found a successor for outgoing coach Pal Dardai. As the Bild newspaper reported on Sunday, Cristian Fiel, the current coach of 1. FC Nuremberg, is said to be “in agreement in principle with the capital club, apart from a few details”.

The 44-year-old’s contract with the Franconians runs until 2025. Assistant coach Jerome Polenz is also expected to move to the Spree.

Under Fiel, Nuremberg experienced a mixed season, in which they only managed to avoid relegation late in the season. Fiel’s coaching career began in 2019 when he took over the then second division club Dynamo Dresden, but he had to leave after just seven months. The German-Spaniard started in Nuremberg in June 2023.

The day before the last game of the season, the Berlin team announced that Dardai’s expiring contract would not be renewed after missing out on promotion. The Hungarian, for whom this was already his third term at his beloved club, will remain with the club in a different capacity.
