“Today I followed my human instinct and not my racing instinct,” said Brand on X. “I stopped to look at my teammate after a nasty crash just a few meters from the finish. I didn’t think twice about it and I don’t regret it. But by doing the right thing, I lost three minutes with the finish line in sight.”
