Heidenheim Heideköpfe Split Results with Hünstetten Storm: A Win and a Defeat

A win and a defeat: The Heidenheim Heideköpfe baseball players know this matchday outcome all too well this season. Last Saturday, the Hünstetten Storm had a split result for the third time. The game day got off to a very unfortunate start: On the way to the team meeting point, the planned starting pitcher Sven Schüller was injured in an accident involving wild animals. Veteran Mike Bolsenbroek stepped in to replace him at short notice, but the coaching staff only allowed him a limited number of pitches after a long injury break.

1st game: Hünstetten Storm – Heidenheim Heideköpfe 5:4

The hosts got off to a better start in the first game, but in the third round Gary Owens couldn’t catch a long ball, which meant the Hünstetten team were able to score twice. But the Heidekopfs showed the right answer and turned the game around in the fourth inning: Shawn Larry followed a run from Drew Jannsen with a 2-run home run before Simon Liedtke added another point to make it 4-2. In the same round, the hosts took advantage of a defensive mistake by Heidenheim and equalized. The decision was made in the last inning: After the guests remained without points, the stormy home team celebrated a run to a 5:4 victory.

1st game: Hünstetten Storm – Heidenheim Heideköpfe 0:7

The second game went exactly to coach Klaus Eckle’s liking: the guests took a three-run lead in the second inning thanks to Simon Liedtke and Elias Redle, and Philip Schulz and David Dinski were each successful with RBI singles. Two innings later, the Heidekopfs added another run after a walk with the bases loaded by veteran Simon Gühring. Substitute Shawn Larry scored two more points in the seventh period with a “sacrificial fly ball”. Meanwhile, the Hünstetter offense was biting its teeth on Heidenheim’s starting pitcher Drew Janssen.

Things continue spectacularly for the Heidenheimers. From Wednesday, May 8th to Saturday, May 11th, we will face long-term rivals Regensburg Legionnaires four times. After two away games on Wednesday and Thursday, there will be two home games on the Schlossberg on Friday and Saturday.
