Hangzhou to Host High-Level International Sports Events: Badminton, Golf, Drone Racing, and More!

Badminton, golf, drone racing, kayaking… all here! Many high-level international events have settled in Hangzhou, allowing you to enjoy them all year round.

Citizens who like to watch sports events should be prepared, as there will be a large number of high-level sports events in the second half of this year. Yesterday, the reporter learned from the Municipal Sports Group that three world-class international events, including the 2024 Hangzhou Golf Open, the 2024 HSBC BWF World Tour Finals, and the World Drone Racing Championship, have been confirmed to be held in Hangzhou and will be held from October to December this year. The 2024 event plan was released simultaneously.

Judging from the event plan that has been announced, it covers three aspects: water, land and air, and will bring an unparalleled viewing experience to citizens.

For example, the 2024 “Grand Canal” Canoe Marathon Series (Hangzhou Station), which will be held from June 22 to 23, has selected the most essential part of the Grand Canal (Hangzhou section). The starting and ending points are located at Gongchen Bridge, and the turning point is located at Wulinmen Wharf.

The event has been included in the series of commemorative activities for the tenth anniversary of the successful application of the Grand Canal for World Heritage status.

The 2024 Hangzhou Golf Open, held at Hangzhou West Lake Golf Club from October 17 to 20, also has many highlights. As the penultimate stop of this year’s European Tour Challenge “Road to Mallorca”, its total prize money is as high as US$500,000, and the points reward is as high as 2,750 points.

The “King Bomb” consisting of generous bonuses and high points will attract more than 100 players from all over the world to gather in Hangzhou to compete for the championship glory.

The World Drone Racing Championship, also held in October, is relatively unpopular, but it is full of gold. The championship is a first-class calendar event officially certified by the International Air Sports Federation, and is also a world-class competition recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a large-scale international drone competition. It is expected that there will be participating teams from 40 countries and regions and 200 players will sign up for this event.

Last year’s BWF World Tour allowed fans to experience the “peak showdown” of world badminton at their doorstep. The 2024 HSBC BWF World Tour Finals is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium in December. Up to 64 top athletes from all over the world will compete for the championship in five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

It is reported that in addition to actively introducing world-class sports events, the Municipal Sports Group also hopes to combine with Hangzhou’s own advantageous resources to cultivate Hangzhou’s own IP events, so as to spread Hangzhou’s local culture, tell Hangzhou’s story well, and tell China’s story well. For example, the world-renowned school rowing competition based on the unique advantageous resource of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the street dance challenge and e-sports events that are popular among young people are all “seed players” for cultivating Hangzhou’s own IP events in the future.
