Stefan Kretzschmar describes part of the work of the German Handball Association as a “lone catastrophe”. With regard to personnel decisions, the Füchse Berlin sports director speaks of “bad style”. It is a general settlement.

Former national player Stefan Kretzschmar has massively criticized the German Handball Association for what he believes are opaque decision-making processes. “I don’t know who’s thinking. What is the DHB anyway? Who is the DHB? Who are the decision makers there? And with what qualifications, with what know-how?” Kretzschmar asked in the “Kretzsche & Schmiso” format of the streaming channel Dyn (like WELT, part of Axel Springer SE) and concluded: “To me, that seems very amateurish.”

The most recent personnel decisions in particular caused a lack of understanding at Kretzschmar. In the spring, CFO Benjamin Chatton announced that he would be leaving the DHB when his contract expired at the end of the year. “I think Benjamin Chatton is a loss for the DHB. An absolutely strong personality,” said the 51-year-old sports director of the Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin. Some association officials considered Chatton to be the successor to sports director Axel Kromer.

Kretzschmar complains about the search for a new DHB manager

Kromer’s contract, which expires on December 31st, will also not be extended, as the DHB announced last week. The association did not give reasons for the unexpected decision. “I know why the contract is not being extended, but if I give the reason, that again speaks of the weakness of the DHB,” reported Kretzschmar.

Kretzschmar also does not agree with the search for a manager for the men’s national team – a position that the DHB advertised in March. “This profile of the search for a new DHB manager is a complete disaster for me. “First and foremost, he has to get along well with our national coach Alfred Gislason,” demanded Kretzschmar and reported: “I spoke to Alfred on the phone a few weeks ago and he didn’t know anything about it. This is all bad. That’s bad form.”
