Unless the situation turns around, the departure of Florian Maurice (and his right-hand man Jérôme Bonnissel?) to Nice seems to be taking shape and Rennes has necessarily prepared for this eventuality. As announced ten days ago, several avenues have been explored or proposed, and the profiles of Grégory Lorenzi (Brest) and the French-speaking Italian Frédéric Massara (ex-AS Rome and AC Milan), who met Rennes representatives, are the most popular.

Lorenzi interests RC Lens, too, but if the future of the Brest sports director appeared elsewhere last week, is that still the case? Or could the demands made on him have pushed Brest to try to significantly improve its situation in the hope of keeping it? This is a hypothesis that gained ground on Tuesday.
Rennes remains a possibility if the choice is approved by the shareholder – the Pinault family – to Julien Stéphan, who also weighs in on the issue. The shareholder would be favorable to the arrival of Lorenzi and this could be enough to validate his arrival, unless the Rennes coach leans towards another profile like that of Massara, who has experience of big clubs and knows the French market well .
The latter would have met Rennes decision-makers again at the start of the week. Will the Breton general staff follow Stéphan? Not sure. Geoffrey Moncada (AC Milan) would have been probed without taking any action, the name of Grégory Thil (ex-Lens) was circulated and the profile of Julien Fournier, former football director of OGC Nice, would also have been studied .
