Gladiators won in the Caldera and extended their undefeated record

Led by Michael Carrera and a historic Gregory Vargas, Gladiadores de Anzoátegui defeated Spartans Distrito Capital 81-77 this Tuesday at the Luis Ramos Gymnasium in Puerto La Cruz. The current champion left his record at 3-0.

Spartans started strongly, taking a difference of up to 10 points, but Gladiators reacted quickly and managed to finish the first quarter tied at 19. Parity was maintained in the next section, but the home team was able to dominate by two to go into the break up 39 – 37.

Gladiators, who were superior in the paint and took great advantage of second chances and counterattacks, dominated the third quarter by six points (25-19) and reached the final 10 minutes with a 64-56 lead. Although Spartans went all out in the final minutes, the Easterners were able to take the victory.

Michael Carrera was the Most Valuable Player of the game with 25 points and eight rebounds. Legend Clifford-Robertin and Charles García followed him with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Captain Gregory Vargas finished with 11 counts and four assists to reach 2,848 for life in Venezuelan professional basketball. He now occupies fourth position in the historical ranking, only behind:
