Giroud announces team resignation – sport.ORF.at

Olivier Giroud announced on Thursday that he is ending his international career. The striker will no longer play for the French national team after the European Championship in Germany.

The 37-year-old Giroud has played 131 times for the French national team and is his country’s record goalscorer with 57 goals. In the summer he will move from Milan to Los Angeles FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS). “We have to make room for the young players,” he explained his resignation to “L’Equipe”.

Navas also announces his resignation

Keylor Navas also announced his retirement from the national team on Thursday. The Costa Rican goalkeeper Navas immediately called it quits and will not play in the Copa America this summer.

The 37-year-old Navas has played 114 times for the Costa Rica national team, his last game being a friendly against Argentina in March.
