Giro d’Italia, the 12th stage from Martinsicuro to Fano: route and altimetry

The 11th stage concluded, with the ‘usual’ victory in the sprint at Francavilla al Mare Jonathan Milanwe are already thinking about 12th stage on Thursday, still on the Adriatic Coast: departure from Martinsicuro (in the Teramo area) and arrive at Fanoabout the insidious Marche ‘walls’, after 193 km. And with Slovenian Tadej Pogacar always in the pink jersey.

Route and altimetry

Flat stage for the first 50 km and subsequently dotted with walls and climbs until the finish. After a first part along the Adriatic, overcome Civitanova Marche you move away from the sea to face a route made up of continuous ups and downs with more or less difficult ups and downs: 10 of them can be cataloged (4 of which are classified as GPM). The last tear, unpublished, of Mount Jupiter is located 9 km from the finish line and presents slopes over 10%. Final part rather structured around the historic center of Fano skirting the walls with various curves and counter-curves and short straight sections interspersing them. Last kilometer slightly uphill. Final straight line 450 meters long and 8 meters wide, on asphalt.

Cycling

From Venaria Reale to Rome: whoever completes this route fastest will win the 107th edition of the Giro d’Italia. Primoz Roglic is the reigning champion, but he will not be at the start of the race. However, the great favorite Pogacar could keep the Maglia Rosa in Slovenia. Binda, Coppi and Merckx have the record of victories, while Italy is the most successful country, even if the Italian success has been missing since 2016 with Vincenzo Nibali.
