Gillé and Vliegen Suffer Upset Loss to Granollers and Zeballos at Madrid Open

Gillé and Vliegen, who share 21st place in the world in doubles and form the seeded pair N.9, lost 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 and 12/10 against the seeded pair N.2 made up of the Spaniard Marcel Granollers and the Argentinian Horacio Zeballos, who both occupy 3rd place in the world in doubles.

The two Limburgers, finalists at Roland-Garros last year, participated for the second time in the Madrid tournament after reaching the semi-finals in 2021. They arrived in the Spanish capital after having won their first Masters 1000 title at the mid-April in Monte Carlo. They were then eliminated in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Munich.
