German Football Season Kicks Off with Bavarian Derby: Straubing Spiders vs Munich Cowboys

The new German football season begins with a Bavarian derby: On Saturday the Straubing Spiders will host the Munich Cowboys (5 p.m.). For both of them, it is a success to even compete in the German League of Football (GFL) given the new competition called the European League of Football (ELF). The Cowboys, for example, recently managed to stay in the league after numerous departures; head coach Nadine Nurasyid also left the traditional team in the winter. The expert, known as an RTL commentator, now works as an assistant trainer for the ELF team Stuttgart Surge. His successor in Munich is Christos Lambropoulos, 34, previously coach of the Saarland Hurricanes.

Also on Saturday, the Allgäu Comets start against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, the Kirchdorf Wildcats start a week later. The Ingolstadt Dukes are no longer in the Bundesliga, after austerity measures by the main club TV 1861 were their downfall.
